OpenAI Employee's AI Agent 'Accidentally' Sent $442K to Beggar (2026)

An OpenAI employee's AI agent, Lobstar Wilde, has 'accidentally' sent $442,000 to a beggar. The incident occurred when a user, 'Treasure David', claimed their uncle needed $310 (4 Solana tokens) for tetanus treatment and provided a wallet address. Lobstar Wilde, tasked with turning $50,000 worth of Solana into $1 million, sent $441,788 instead. The AI agent later admitted the mistake, and the tokens were sold for around $40,000. Interestingly, the LOBSTAR token value surged by nearly 190% from $0.0038 to $0.011 at the time of writing. This isn't the first time an AI agent has lost crypto funds; a similar incident occurred with the 'aixbt' bot in May. The cause of the error is still under investigation, with speculation pointing to a decimal mistake in the Solana interface. Despite these setbacks, industry leaders predict AI agents will significantly impact the crypto space, with Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire forecasting widespread use of AI agents in stablecoin transactions within five years.
